TOEFL® Institutional Testing Program (TOEFL® ITP)

The TOEFL® Institutional Testing Program (TOEFL®ITP) are a variety of internationally-standardized English proficiency tests that offer colleges, universities, English language learning programs and other organizations the opportunity to administer a convenient, affordable and reliable assessment of English-language skills. The TOEFL® ITP tests are previously administered TOEFL® tests that can be used for placement, progress, evaluation, exit testing and other lower-stakes situations. Note that for the purpose of admission to college and universities abroad, students must take the TOEFL® iBT (Internet‐based Test).

The TOEFL® ITP is a paper-based test that evaluates language proficiency through three sections: Listening Comprehension, Structure and Written Expression and Reading Comprehension. The TOEFL® ITP score ranges from 310 to 677. Over 1,200 schools, universities and private institutions around the world participate in the TOEFL® Institutional Testing Program (ITP). As an ETS® Preferred Associate,  IIEF administers the ITP for more than 70 institutions in 33 provinces in Indonesia.

The ITP test is available in two testing options: the General TOEFL® ITP test and the PRE–TOEFL®test. The General TOEFL® ITP test scores for knowledge of English language in medium up to extension level, while the PRE-TOEFL® measures the language skills similar to TOEFL® test, but with a lower level of difficulty and shorter test time.

What is TOEFL® ITP can be use for? TOEFL® ITP score cannot be use as acceptance requirement in universities or colleges or other higher risk purposes. The score gained also cannot be use for international standardization. But as an exception, the TOEFL® ITP score can be use as acceptance requirement for English ability in the schools where English is not the primary language. Although internationally acknowledged, this test is still considered proper for the following purposes:

  • Prediction: this test can be use to predict participant’s success rate when about to participate the TOEFL® International.
  • Score: this test can be use as level indicator in English ability at the beginning and end of courses or education.
  • Practice: this test can be use as a practice to familiarize students or participants in test of multiple answer formats.
  • Placement: this test can also be use as filtering tools in allocating someone for English courses at suitable level according to the present ability.
  • Filtering: this test can be use to select candidate for student exchange program or those who apply for work abroad, or to get a scholarship.

TOEFL® ITP USERS

Institutions that has gained the use of ITP benefits, they are: Education Counseling Institutions, English Course Institutions, Universities and schools, Banks, Government Institutions, Scholarship Donors, Private Corporations.

INDIVIDUAL TOEFL® ITP Where can you take the test?

Individual is allow to take TOEFL® ITP test for scholarship screening, to practice, or to estimate the TOEFL® International score authorized institution stated by IIEF in all Indonesia.
